We took the Metro bus to the Othello light rail station and took the train to the end of the line at Westlake Center. It was definitely a God planned day because we encountered so many helpful people and everything was running on time and we hardly had to wait long. The Sound Transit people really went all out today to make the opening day as easy as possible.
The trains were very crowded. We had to stand the whole way to Seattle, not any easy feat with Lauren, but on the way back we were able to find a seat.
It was a long day, but Lauren can say many years from now that she took one of the first rides on the light rail and hopefully when she's older it will be vastly expanded. Sure it may help alleviate some traffic, but the impact we saw going through rarely traveled areas in South Seattle is that it will help revitalize neglected neighborhoods and connect the less fortunate to urban neighborhoods they may not have easily accessed in the past.
